2018 Dover Days Festival will have a new footprint

Dover Days
The Dover Days Festival is changing its footprint in 2018.

The 2018 Dover Days Festival will have a different look.

When the state's capital holds the 85th Annual Dover Days Festival on Saturday, May 5, Kent County Tourism President Wendie Vestfall says it will have a new footprint, moving to Downtown Dover to emphasize the businesses there.

“The new footprint is our way of helping out the downtown Dover merchants and restaurants. Traditionally we’ve had the Dover Days on Legislative Mall and that’s a block or two away from really the heart of downtown. So this is our way of helping people realize what’s down there. We have a lot of great shops and restaurants for people to partake in when they visit downtown Dover, " said Vestfall.

Vestfall says Kent County Tourism also wants to expose festival visitors to the rich history, culture and heritage in and around the Dover area.

She adds moving the footprint also opens up all the parking surrounding Legislative Mall, making it easier for people to participate.

A slight change in the Dover Days parade route is necessary because of the new footprint. The parade will remain on State Street but will now turn left on Loockerman Street and disperse at the Delaware Public Archives.

“And the reason for that is we really are making The Green the focal point of Dover Days. That’s where there’s so much history with the Court House and we have all those other things that happened there - First State Heritage Park,” Vestfall said.
