Christmas is over and 2017 is about to come to a close. And the American Red Cross says now is a great time to donate blood.
The American Red Cross says all blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.
With that in mind, American Red Cross external communications manager Alana Mauger says people should consider thinking outside the gift box and donate blood.
“It’s so important, this week in particular. We find so many people are visiting family and traveling…..just kind of enjoying some time off between Christmas and New Years. But the fact of the matter is, is that the need for blood does NOT take a holiday. The need for blood is constant and we need blood this week,” Mauger said.
Mauger says donating blood is easy and quick.
“And what people might not realize is, it only takes an hour, and when I san an hour, that’s from start to finish, from the time you walk in, to the time you leave. Now, you’re actually only on the donation table for about to 10 minutes. So it’s a lot faster than people might realize,” said Mauger
