235 employees of Delaware state agencies and their families submitted artwork for the fourth annual State Employee Exhibition and Contest.

The participating artists came from across the state and region and 21 were recognized for their excellence and chosen to exhibit at Delaware State University’s Arts Center and Gallery.

Delaware Division of the Arts Deputy Director Kristen Pleasanton, says the event provides state employees an opportunity to share their artistic talent.

“They’re working day to day and they’re doing some of these things on the side whether its a hobby or whether they’re creating work that’s for sale and it gives them a chance to be part of an exhibition and see their work in a professional gallery setting,” said Pleasanton.

Awards were given out in five categories - Professional, Intermediate, Amateur, Teen and Youth.  The winners can be seen at the Delaware Division of the Arts website.

In addition, Pleasanton says First State art fans can use social media to pick their favorite entry.

“Anyone who goes to the Facebook page, they can see all of the images there and if they like an image, that gives them a vote towards the People’s Choice Award so we give this other opportunity for the public to have a say in choosing an award winner for the show,” said Pleasanton.

The  “People’s Choice” will be recognized along with other winners at the Awards Show and Closing Reception on March 14th with Delaware Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock helping preside over the ceremony.
