August begins with declining gas prices

Delaware Public Media

July’s declining gas prices are continuing into August.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in the First State dropped six cents from $2.59 to $2.53 in the past week. Motorists in Delaware are now paying nearly a dollar less than a year ago when the state’s average stood at $3.42.

Delaware-gas-prices-dot-com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.43 or slightly less. Most of them are located in Kent County, specifically in Dover.

Delaware drivers are paying 18 cents below the national average, which fell seven cents to $2.65 since last week.

The national average has been dropping for almost three weeks now. Last month the average was $2.77. This is the longest decline in gas prices since January, says AAA officials.

The falling gas prices are due to the oversupplied global oil market. Experts say it’s possible that gas could cost as low as $2 per gallon in some parts of the country later this year.
