Barney shines again in fundraising race

Delaware Public Media

Democrats looking to lock down their party’s nomination for Delaware’s only U.S. House seat continue to bring in significant cash with less than two weeks remaining before the primary.

Sean Barney continues to dominate the fundraising game, having collected nearly $220,000 in less than two months.

Despite being one of the last to enter the race toward the end of 2015, he’s taken in more than $660,000 total – beating out each of his five opponents.

Much of that money has come from out of state, which has been questioned by his competition.

Barney also has the most cash on hand with more than $350,000 in the bank.

Lisa Blunt Rochester gathered another roughly $170,000, leaving her with more than $105,000 in cash.

State Sen. Bryan Townsend (D-Newark), who had been the contest’s fundraising star in the first half of the race, drew significantly fewer donations since July 1.

He brought in about $115,000 and loaned himself $20,000 to give him just shy of $200,000 cash on hand.

Financial reports weren’t immediately available for Michael Miller, Scott Walker or Elias Weir.

Delaware’s primary is September 13.
