Bayhealth breaks ground on new Milford campus

Bayhealth
Officials break ground at the site of Bayhealth's new Milford campus.

Bayhealth is starting construction on it’s new medical campus in Milford. The project  is estimated to cost upwards of $300 million and opens in 2019.

The campus will feature a six-story hospital, emergency room and a 70,000 square-foot outpatient center.

Bayhealth President and CEO Terry Murphy said the new campus just off Route 1 in Milford will be built on more than 165 acres of land.

“It gives us the ability to expand, not just 10 or 20 years, but really 50 or 100 years out into the future,” Murphy said.

Nemours Children’s Health System will provide specialized services on the new campus that previously were not available in Southern Delaware.

“That type of space and land allows us to attract someone like Nemours to in this part of the state in a very active way,” Murphy said.

He said the current Bayhealth hospital in Milford will stay open until the new campus is completed. The company is looking at various options for repurposing that existing facility.
