Big Barrel Music Festival comes to a close

Cathy Carter
It's a wrap for Big Barrel in Dover.

A day after torrential rains soaked the Woodlands, a sunny sky greeted fans on the final day of the Big Barrel Music Festival in Dover on Sunday.

Those that stuck out Saturday’s heavy rain were able to get close to the main stage for headliner Miranda Lambert. Fans had much more company for the festival’s closing set by Carrie Underwood.

Fan reaction was mostly positive for the inaugural Big Barrel Country Music Festival which was launched by the same groups that stage Firefly.

The lineup and lay out got high marks but some took to social media to complain about a lack of organization regarding parking and shuttle transportation.

Final attendance numbers for the weekend have yet to be released but organizers say 30,000 people attended Big Barrel. It’s not known yet whether the country music event will return next year. But Red Frog Events has already released the dates for the next edition of Firefly.  Those dates are June 16-19, 2016.

After two straight weekends, festival season in Delaware now shifts from the state capital to Sussex County. The Delaware Junction Country Music Festival comes to the Delaware State Fairgrounds August 14-16 and features headliners Toby Keith and Jason Aldean.
