Brandywine Valley SPCA reopens for adoptions after fire, still rebuilding clinic

The Brandywine Valley SPCA reopened its New Castle Campus Wednesday.

The nonprofit says crews have repaired the adoption areas, but it could take up to two months to rebuild the clinic.

The organization will still perform spay and neuter surgeries, as well as pet check-ups in other parts of the facility.

Crews worked to clean up the facility for more than two weeks after a car crashed into the building, causing a fire.

The crash and fire killed the driver — Latoya Cooper, and four cats.

Almost 100 animals were left without homes.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA says it has adopted out the majority of those animals — with almost a dozen still waiting for a forever home.

They’re still totaling the costs from the fire, but they’ve raised about $50,000 to pay for repairs through a campaign website.
