Bush campaign first to turn in Delaware ballot signatures

Jeb Bush campaign

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush may be the first presidential candidate to qualify for the ballot in Delaware.

Laird Stabler, a Republican Party national committeeman, says he dropped off close to 1,000 signatures Monday to the state Department of Elections, though not in his official party capacity.

In Delaware, a candidate needs only 500 signatures to appear on the ballot.

Election Commissioner Elaine Manlove confirms her office received the petitions, which are the first by any campaign of any party affiliation.

But Manlove says the signatures submitted still need to be verified.

Any presidential candidate looking to get on the Delaware ballot needs to turn in their petitions by February 26.

Voters head to the polls for the First State’s presidential primary April 26.
