Cannabis task force votes against releasing recommendations

Delaware Public Media

The Adult Use Cannabis Task Force plans to meet again next week. But Wednesday, it voted against sending its recommendations on legalizing recreational cannabis to the General Assembly and the public.

The resolution establishing the task force requires the majority of its 25 members to sign off on releasing its findings or recommendations. It fell one vote short.

The group has spent the past six months compiling recommendations on how to approach legalizing recreational pot - should lawmakers do so.

But some task force members say the report voted on Wednesday didn’t include all of the minutes and other information presented during its hearings and they want that information in the report before approving its release.

AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Cathy Rossi voted against releasing the report, but adds the task force will meet again next week to reconsider.

“If lawmakers understand that it is simply a framework, then we will probably be comfortable releasing it next week," she said."But that is to be determined when we meet next week.” Task Force Co-chair Rep. Helene Keeley (D-Wilmington South) said it will be included in the final report, which she believes can be released anyway.

“We want to make sure that all of that is in order and that that’s reviewed and then any member, at least at this point, any member of the General Assembly could have access to the report and all the minutes as need be,” she said.

Keeley said several task force members were absent or abstained from Wednesday’s vote, and she isn’t sure there will be another. She said she’s checking into whether another vote can legally be held.
