Changes on the way from DART following rider feedback

DART is making improvements based on rider feedback from its recent Community Conversations.

Community Conversations in Wilmington and Newark offered DART riders and the general public a chance to weigh in on service changes DART made in mid-December.

DART spokesperson Julie Theyerl says much of what they heard concerned Wilmington routes.

“In Wilmington, the biggest concern was some of the downtown routing changes and bus stop changes. So we did get a lot of really good feedback. And one thing we’re going to change before the next service change in May is, we’re going to restore a stop on Rodney Square along 10th Street for three routes that have just been passing by that stop,” Theyerl said.

Theyerl says that the Rodney Square bus stop will be restored starting this Sunday for Routes 2, 6 and 28.

Theyerl adds DART plans to add seating at new bus shelters on French Street at 8th Street and 10th Street at Tatnall Street. She says shelters and/or canopies are coming for stops along King Street at 10th Street alongside the library, and at 9th and 6th Streets.

“Some of the concerns were, there weren’t shelter or benches. We now have some shelters and benches on order that we will be placing; two of the new stops (French Street at 8th Street &10th Street at Tatnall Street), we already have shelters for and we’ll be getting benches. And then a couple of the heavily used stops we’re getting some type of either shelter or canopy,” Theyerl said.

If you missed the recent Community Conversations in Wilmington and Newark, three public hearing workshops are planned this March to get input on DART’s planned service changes to Routes 13 and 18 in May.
