City officials celebrate Wilmington’s newest residential community at old Bancroft Mills

City of Wilmington

Construction on The Overlook at Rockford Falls started in January, and city officials welcomed its future residents with a groundbreaking ceremony Monday.

The new development along the Brandywine Creek will include 32 luxury townhomes. Wilmington city officials say construction should be completed by 2020.

The new construction transforms part of the site of the historic Bancroft Mills, a former textile factory opened in 1831 that had been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since the 1980s.

The Mills burned in a fire two years ago. Wilmington Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal James Jobes says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to city officials, Overlook at Rockford Falls units will start at around $570,000.

The developer, Wilmington-based Montchanin Builders, boasts the development’s proximity to the Delaware Art Museum and Rockford Park - and describes the community as “exclusive.”

In a statement, Mayor Mike Purzycki said, “I welcome the new residents of The Overlook at Rockford Falls and invite them to become deeply involved with our City and all that is has to offer to residents and visitors alike.”
