Coast Day returns to UD's Lewes campus Sunday

Coast Day is coming back to University of Delaware’s Lewes campus Sunday.

The event features everything from horseshoe crab touch tanks to local seafood, to students and professors talking about their research.
Chris Petrone, the marine education specialist for Delaware Sea Grant, says the college is excited to bring the event back after a two-year hiatus. This year, they’ll unveil their Robotics Discoveries Lab to the public, he said.

"Folks will get to have a look at all sorts of different kinds of robotics that we use out in the field, from remotely operated vehicles to gliders to drones — all sorts of cool robotics that we use to do scientific research," Petrone said.

It's a "hallmark" for Sussex County, and even all of Delaware, he said.

"It’s a wide open family event full of great science and environmental education," Petrone said.

He said one thing they’re excited to bring back is  a fleet of scaled replicas of ships made out of legos.

A Nor’Easter cancelled Coast Day in 2015. Last year, the college decided not to hold Coast Day because its building was being renovated.
