Artists are gearing up for a creative race at the Delaware College of Art and Design in Wilmington later this month.

The Drawing Marathon will bring professional and amateur artists together to shape clay, draw and paint their way to the finish line for nine hours during the annual competition.

The event might not be an athletic race, but Admissions Director Jane Campbell said it still takes hyper-focus and stamina to complete.

"So this gives the public the opportunity to really immerse themselves for the day in the activity of drawing," she said.

The marathon is open to participants of all skill levels and Campbell said they can exhibit their work in an upcoming exhibition at the college. She said events like this one are becoming a worldwide trend that allow participants to develop their artistic skills.

Over 100 artists are expected to participate.

The drawing marathon is Jan. 21 at the Delaware College of Art and Design in Wilmington.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
