Delaware Art Museum announces 2017-2018 schedule

"All The Good guys Died by Mac Conner
Delaware Art Museum
Illustrator Mac Conner is one of the featured artists in the new exibition schedule. He is a former advertising executive.

The packed exhibition schedule at the Delaware Art Museum features three main exhibitions.

The first is "Wonder and Whimsy: The Illustrations of W. Heath Robinson."

Curator Margaretta Frederick said Robinson, a British illustrator, was well known in his lifetime, but has since faded in popularity here in America.

"The purpose of the show is to reintroduce to American audiences the work of this really talented British illustrator," she said.

Robinson illustrated many books, including works by William Shakespeare, Rudyard Kipling and Hans Christian Andersen.

Another major exhibit in the upcoming season is "The Original Mad Man: Illustrations by Mac Conner," which features works from a Mad Men era advertising executive.

The final major exhibit is "An American Journey: The Art of John Sloan," which features over 100 works by the iconic artist. The Delaware Art Museum holds the largest collection of Sloan’s work in the world.

Several smaller exhibits will be intermixed between the three, including a pop-up sculpture exhibit "Sound + Light" by artist Craig Colorusso.

Frederick said the show will feature a series of solar-powered boxes that play musical tones.

“So he’s kind of incorporation all these various elements to make this total, all encompassing experience," she said.

That exhibit will last for 10 days next summer in the museum’s outdoor sculpture garden.
