Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition's Yes2Health program ramps up

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s new Yes2Health program seeks to help women struggling with health issues that put them at risk for developing breast cancer and other chronic illness.";

There’s a new program to help women struggling with health issues that put them at risk for developing breast cancer and other chronic illness.

The Yes2Health Program comes from the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.

“This program is very important. It is newly developed to establish a nurturing and supportive environment for women who might be struggling with health issues, either at-risk for health issues or currently going through treatment for health conditions or chronic illnesses,” said the Coalition’s communications director Beth Krallis.

Krallis says the program's target audience is women age 40 and over at risk for breast cancer or with at least one of several issues, including hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes or a body mass index of 30 or above.

“It is a 12-week walk-in program, taking place in Rehoboth Beach. It will take place in the month of June through August for about an hour-and-a-half. It will be a combination of walking meet-ups, educational programs and information on fitness, health and wellness,” said Krallis.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among U.S. women - excluding skin cancers - according to the American Cancer Society. It is the second leading cause of cancer death among women nationwide after lung cancer.

Krallis notes space is limited for the program, which will be held weekly on Wednesdays, starting June 6th on the Applebee's patio in the Seaside Outlets.  It’s free, But you must sign up, by contacting Connie Holdridge at choldridge@delawarebreastcancer.org or by calling (302) 212-2947.
