Delaware Chamber Music Festival kicks off new season

The Delaware Chamber Music Festival will perform in a new venue for it’s 32nd season and team up with a local jazz ensemble.

Titled “Strings and Keys,” the season pairs the work of Brahms with other classical heavyweights like Beethoven, Stravinsky and Mozart.

"And what I’ve tried to do is pair Brahms’ music with other composers who have some similarities - but contrast," Artistic Director Barbara Govatos said.

The season includes two weekends of concerts at Wilmington Friends School June 16 and 18, as well as the 23 and 25.

Govatos hopes the new venue will attract a younger audience.

The season includes a standalone concert at The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew in Wilmington, with DCMF teaming up with the Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency.

"It should be a very, very interesting coming together of jazz players and composers and classical musicians who are very flexible."

That concert is June 24.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
