Delaware Electric Co-op proposes rate decrease

Delaware Electric Cooperative announced Tuesday it is considering cutting its rates by around 5 percent.

Under the proposed rate decrease, the average household using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per-month would save $72 per-year.

In a release, CEO Bill Andrew cited lower wholesale power costs and said the rate cut, if approved, would come from a series of changes to how customers’ bills are calculated.

The DEC Board of Directors is holding a public meeting about the proposed decrease Feb. 15 at its headquarters in Greenwood. After taking member comments, the board will vote on the proposal.

The Delaware Electric Cooperative serves about 93,000 customers in Kent and Sussex Counties.
