Delaware gas prices fall for the first time in weeks

Delaware Public Media

After over a month of rising gas prices, First State drivers will find some relief at the pump this week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware dropped 4 cents from $2.38 a week ago to $2.34. This is the first time the state average has dropped since the beginning of February. During this rising period, First State gas prices climbed over 30 cents.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.25 or slightly less – mostly in New Castle County.

Delaware drivers are paying seven cents below the national average, which fell 2 cents to $2.43 this week. Until last week, the national average had been rising for 40 consecutive days, the longest rising streak since 2011.

AAA projects gas prices will fluctuate while the global markets for crude oil attempt to stabilize. Still, officials expect prices at the pump will stay below $3 per gallon this season as U.S. production continues to hit record levels. Drivers nationally are still are paying over a dollar less than what they were paying a year ago, at $3.52 per gallon.
