Delaware gas prices inching towards $2.00 per gallon

Delaware Public Media

Delaware drivers enjoyed another boon at the pump last week as local gas prices continue their descent.

People are paying on average $2.05 for a gallon of regular in the First State according to AAA Mid-Atlantic, down a nickel from last week.

Delawareans were paying far more at this same time last year when the average price stood at $2.87 a gallon.

Delawaregasprices.com reports the cheapest price for a gallon of regular is in Elsmere at $1.93. Otherwise, most of the cheapest gas hovers around $1.95 at a handful of stations in Kent and New Castle Counties.

Nationwide, averages shed two pennies to close the week at $2.19 for a gallon of regular. Last year, drivers were shelling out $3.00 a gallon.

Crude oil prices dropped nearly two dollars a barrel over the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic officials continue to predict gas falling below $2.00 a gallon on average before the end of the year barring supply disruptions – the first time since 2009.
