After being without a permanent leader since January, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra announced Thursday Alan Jordan as its next executive director.
Jordan most recently led the Vermont Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, He’s also overseen the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra and another orchestra in Florida.
“Our Board is delighted to welcome an Executive Director with the competence, experience, and passion of Alan Jordan," said DSO President Charles W. Babcock in a statement. "With his leadership, we have great hopes and plans for our professional musicians, for our audiences, and for the cultural life of the State of Delaware.”
Jordan earned a Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1983 and has been involved with the professional music world since.
Jordan takes over the Delaware Symphony Orchestra after past executive director Diana Milburn resigned at the beginning of the year.
During her tenure, the organization has undergone significant changes in leadership, survived waning organizational support and attendance, as well as a musicians’ union contract standoff.
Jordan will take over the orchestra in September, kicking off their 2015-2016 season entitled The Season of the Bells.
