Delaware's McBride to make history with speaking role at Democratic Convention

Joe Biden won’t be the only Delawarean speaking on the Democratic Party’s biggest stage this week.

Sarah McBride, a Wilmington native, will be the first openly transgender person to address a major party’s convention when she speaks to Democrats gathering in Philadelphia to officially nominate Hillary for President.

McBride works as the press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, an LGBT nonprofit in Washington D.C. working to fight discrimination.

She was also the public face for Equality Delaware’s push to add gender identity to the state’s nondiscrimination clause in 2013.

It’s unclear what time McBride will speak, though she tweeted Sunday she is slated to speak Thursday.

Biden is scheduled for Wednesday night along with President Obama.
