Minimum wage workers in Delaware will see an increase in their pay beginning Monday.
The second stage of a two-step increase in the hourly rate, approved by lawmakers last year, kicks in on June 1. The new rate will be $8.25 per hour.
Governor Markell signed Senate Bill 6 into law in January 2014.
The chief sponsor of that legislation, Sen. Robert Marshall (D-Wilmington West), says the wage increase will help people who are struggling to get by.
“This provides a boost to help the people who are struggling the hardest to get by in our economy," said Marshall in a statement. “This is money that’s going to go right back into the economy helping people buy the necessities of life.”
