DelDOT: Clearing roads in First State taking time

Delaware Public Media

DelDOT spokesman Jim Westhoff says Friday morning’s commute will be rough because of Thursday's heavy snow accumulation and Thursday night’s cold temperatures.

Many Delaware roads remain snow covered or snow packed Friday despite DelDOT's crews work overnight statewide.
Very low temperatures and packed snow and ice have made it much more difficult to plow.

"There's still a lot of slick areas on the roads," said Westhoff.  "Primary roads have some blacktop showing through, but there's still a lot of hard packed snow and ice. We'll work on those [Friday] with salt in addition to working on the secondary and back roads, plowing and applying salt there as well. We should make a lot of progress [Friday], but still motorists are going to see a lot of slick areas on the roads."

Westhoff says the main goal Friday is clearing primary and some secondary roads.

Crews should get some help as the sun comes up and temperatures start to rise a bit more.

With these conditions in mind, motorists are advised to leave plenty of time to reach their destinations Friday.
