DelDOT reminds drivers of Thanksgiving schedule changes and road safety

Delaware Public Media

DelDOT is suspending some lane closures and reminding drivers to be alert for possible delays during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Planned lane closures on Route 1, I-95 and Route 202 will be suspended at noon Wednesday and will resume on midnight on Sunday. But the agency notes that with heavy traffic, accidents and other unforeseen incidents could prompt delays.

Tollbooths at the I-95 Newark Plaza, Route 1-Biddles Corner Plaza and Route 1-Dover plaza will have extra personnel to ease congestion.

DART services will not operate on Thanksgiving Day, but will resume regular schedules on Friday. SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Line will operate its weekend schedule Thursday with service to Claymont and Wilmington.

The ticketing office at the Wilmington Station will also be closed on Thanksgiving, so passengers are encouraged to buy fares in advance.

DelDOT advises motorists to drive safely, obey traffic laws and leave extra time to reach destinations, and to use DelDOT's traffic app to find alternate routes.
