Courtesy: USA Basketball

Local sports fans can get a taste of next month’s Rio Olympics Wednesday night in Newark.

Elena Delle Donne and the U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball team play an exhibition at the University of Delaware before heading to the Summer Games in Brazil.

Delle Donne and Team USA face France at the Carpenter Center as part

of a doubleheader at the Bob.  The U.S. and France tip-off at 7:30, following a 5 pm contest between Australia and Canada.

The U.S. is the five-time defending Olympic gold medalists, but this is the first time Delle Donne, the former Ursuline Academy and UD star, is on the team.

It’s also the fourth time Delle Donne returns to Newark to play in front of her hometown fans.  She’s previously played three exhibitions at the Bob with her WNBA team, the Chicago Sky– including one in May.
