The new Sussex County VA outpatient clinic opens Tuesday, Sept 12 on Roth Avenue across from Del Tech in Georgetown.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Sussex County Community-based Outpatient Clinic in Georgetown is moving.

Starting Tuesday, the clinic will no longer be at the Georgetown Plaza.  It’s new home is across the street from Delaware Tech on Roth Avenue.

Jake Spruance, interim associate director for operations at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wilmington, says the new clinic is necessary,

"Sussex County in general has experienced growth over the past couple of years and that relates to our veterans population as well. So really we outgrew the facility were were currently in," said Spruance. "So, it assists with space and it also helps us adopt a new health care-delivery model, which provides more focus, a team-based approach, which will be a tremendous benefit to our veterans."

Community-based Outpatient Clinic Manager Bill Griffiths adds when people walk through the doors they can expect a fresh, clean space designed for efficient patient flow. He says they will also have direct access to an integrated health care team.

The new location has 10 primary care exam rooms and is 2,500-square-feet larger than the current building in the Georgetown Plaza.

“Our clinic opens [Tuesday] and will be ready for veterans. We had a team working collaboratively to pull things together to get everything set up,” said Spruance.

An official grand opening and ribbon cutting is planned at the new facility sometime in October. No official date has yet been set.
