The 84th Annual Dover Dayskicks off Friday night at 6:00 on the Legislative Mall.

This year’s festival will feature the usual highlights, including fireworks, a parade and maypole dancing - but there are some new features including a game of 18th century cricket, an exhibit on the history of skateboarding and a performance by the US Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.

The Dover Days Parade will be competing with Vice President Joe Biden’s commencement speech at Delaware State University Saturday morning, but Kent County Tourism Executive Director and Dover Days organizer WendieVestfall doesn’t expect it to be an issue.

“DSU commencement begins at 10:00 am. Our parade is at 9:30. However, Dover Days does go on until 5:00 pm so if traffic is something you want to avoid, come see us after 11:00,” Vestfall said.

Organizers expect to meet or exceed last year’s attendance record of 55,000 people.

There are several parking lots in the downtown area designated for people attending Dover Days. There will be signs and attendants to help find these lots.

The festival is free and runs through Sunday.
