People in the U.S. are living longer than ever. Many across the country and in the First State want transform the experience of getting older. Dozens gathered for the Creative Aging Conference in Dover to find out how to help the aging population boost creativity.

The idea behind the Dec. 10 Creative Aging Workshop is to give people of a certain age the confidence to keeping writing, dancing, painting and growing as creative people. It’s also an outlet to help organizations design individualized creative programs.

Sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts and the National Center for Creative Aging, the conference drew dozens of participants to the Modern Maturity Center in Dover to explore creative activities, battle ageism and delve into research.

One woman who works with the elderly said she was inspired daily by people in their 80s and 90s who take classes and want to travel.

She said she wants to be like them when she grows up.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
