DSO plays music hits in new concert

Delaware Symphony Orchestra

Music from the silver screen will grace the stage of The Grand Opera House in Wilmington this Friday.

The Delaware Symphony Orchestra is playing music from West Side Story and other film favorites as part of its Classic Concert series.

Executive Director Alan Jordan thinks people will be pleasantly surprised by the music of Erich Korngold.

"(He) will be known by many as a composer of music for films like Errol Flynn’s The Adventures of Robin Hood and things like that. So it’s really lush, wonderful music," Jordan said.

The concert can draw music fans who may not typically attend the orchestra, Jordan said.

"Music that they've heard on TV or in the movie house can be really thrilling in a concert setting."

The event features internationally known violinist Jinjoo Cho.

The concert starts Friday evening at the Copeland Hall of the Grand Opera House in Wilmington.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
