DSU's band director set to retire

The Director of Bands at Delaware State University has announced he is retiring after 20 years.

Randolph J. Johnson is stepping down as after a total of 20 years at the school.

Johnson actually held the post twice, first as Director from 1990-2001, returning to the same position in 2007.

He has been a music educator for over 40 years and over 60 of his former students are band directors throughout the country, from Delaware, Maryland and Virginia to North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. 

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Johnson plans to return home after he leaves his position this August.

Johnson said he was proud of his students more than 70% graduation rate. He also thanks his wife, Diana, for her support.
