Delaware State University is once again in the market for a new provost.
James Ammons was scheduled to take over as provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Monday, July 18, but he notified DSU’s administration last weekend he will remain in his current position at Florida A&M University.
Ammons cited personal reasons for his decision to decline the job.
Ammons was hired in late May to replace former provost, Alton Thompson, who resigned in March.
University officials say DSU has operated normally since Thompson resigned, and will continue to do so. Two associate provosts are currently handling the position’s duties.
DSU will start a national search for a new provost in the coming days.
There is no timetable for when a replacement will be hired.
