DUI checkpoint set for New Year's Eve in NCCo

Delaware Public Media

As we approach the end of the year, Delaware law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on drunk driving.

37 law enforcement agencies across the state are participating in overtime patrols to reign in Delaware’s drunk drivers, calling December “The Most Dangerous Time of the Year.”

As of Dec. 22, roughly 4,000 people have been arrested for DUI in the First State. That’s about 70 fewer than last year.

Confirmed cases of impaired driving deaths are also down from last year at 55 so far, but the Office of Highway Safety says 20 other fatalities are still being analyzed.

If confirmed, it would surpass 2014’s total of 70.

Police will also stage a DUI checkpoint in New Castle County on New Year's Eve, as well as statewide DUI patrols.
