State officials are encouraging Delawareans to make or update their emergency response plans as summer gives way to fall by going to www.preparede.org
In his weekly message, Gov. Jack Markell (D) is promoting a revamped website where people can find help to create a plan, put together a kit and find updates during emergency situations.
“By preparing now, you’ll best position yourself and your loved ones to respond safely and quickly should an emergency occur,” Markell said.
New information on the website includes tips on how to best help children, those with disabilities and seniors during an emergency event.
Non-English speakers may also read the website in nine other languages.

Severe weather, natural disasters, and public health emergencies can threaten the safety of our people, homes, and communities.
As Governor, I’ve observed how fortunate we are to have so many exceptional public servants hard at work keeping us safe during rain, wind, and snow events, as well as other emergencies.
They’re law enforcement and other first responders, emergency management staff, transportation workers, public health workers, and other social service providers across Delaware, who are well-prepared to serve us during times of need.
As we recognize National Preparedness Month, we thank them for their service.
But in addition to supporting them, we all must recommit to taking responsibility for knowing what to expect and being prepared for emergency situations.
It can save lives and help you weather the storm. It’s why we’re making a special effort to empower everybody to do their part to prepare for the unexpected.
I recently joined the Delaware Emergency Management Agency, Delaware Citizens Corps, and the Division of Public Health to relaunch the website PrepareDE.org.
This site is a "one-stop shop" to educate Delawareans. It includes preparedness tools and tips and information about emergency alerts.
It also features new information about helping children in an emergency, along with individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and other vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors.
For non-English speaking residents and visitors, content can be translated into nine additional languages. There is even information about preparedness for pets.
I encourage you to take a few minutes to visit PrepareDE.org to learn what to do when disaster strikes.
Use that information to develop your own disaster response plan, and talk with your family about it. By preparing now, you will best position yourself and your loved ones to respond quickly and safely should an emergency occur. And that will keep Delaware moving forward.
