The upcoming Festival of Words in Wilmington promises to give middle and high school students, as well as their teachers, an introduction to a diverse group of authors and ideas.

The festival is all about young adult literature, with workshops and presentations from artists.

This year’s event features a performance by the Bronx-based artist collective The Peace Poets and a keynote address New York Times bestselling author Brendan Kiely.

Kiely was selected as one of the American Library Association’s top fiction writers for young adults.

The Festival of Words includes workshops ranging from tips on writing historical fiction, to conversations about fighting LGBTQ invisibility, to developing a successful writing process.

Special sessions for teachers and librarians will focus on giving students what they need in writing and learning.

The festival is Feb. 16 at John Dickinson High School in Wilmington.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
