Finalists named for Christina superintendent post

Delaware Public Media

After being without a permanent superintendent since October 2015, Christina School Board members have chosen three finalists – two of which have extensive ties to Delaware education.

Samuel Golder currently oversees budgets, school evaluations and charter schools for Red Clay School District. He’s held that position since 2009.

Before that, he was principal at A.I. DuPont and taught English in Maryland.

Richard Gregg is the assistant superintendent for the Penn-Delco School District in Aston, PA. Both his degrees come from Delaware universities and he previously worked as director of instruction at New Castle County Vo-Tech.

And Gerald Wilson has experience as a superintendent of school districts in four states – mostly in the western U.S. He most recently worked as the superintendent of Worcester County Public Schools in Newark, MD from 2012-2016.

Board officials recently named Noreen LaSorsa acting superintendent earlier this month. Freeman Williams, the most recent permanent superintendent took a leave of absence in August 2015 before submitting his resignation two months later.

The new superintendent will inherit many challenges including a fight among state lawmakers over how to redistrict some schools within Christina and shift them over to the Red Clay School District.

All three finalists will present their ideas at a public forum Jan. 11 at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School in Newark:

  • Richard Gregg - 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Samuel Golder - 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
  • Gerald Wilson - 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
