First snow of 2018 predicted for Wednesday night/Thursday morning

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Storm Watch for Sussex County for Wednesday night into Thursday.

A storm is expected to hang off the coast, making southeastern Sussex County the most likely to see significant accumulations.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mitchell Gaines says beach areas could see 3 to 5 inches before all is said and done:

“There still is a potential for snow across the State as a whole. Right now, Delaware looks to be on the western edge of the storm overall as it tracks up the east coast,” says Gaines.

Gaines says New Castle County residents will probably only see an inch or two of snow.

Gaines says the snow is expected to start sometime overnight Wednesday and be an issue during rush-hour Thursday morning. He says the snow should start to wrap up after that.

Along with the snow, winds gust to over 40-miles-per-hour are forecast, which could add to the hazardous driving conditions during Thursday’s morning commute.
