First State braces for snowy weather overnight

Delaware Public Media

Delaware is expected to get a few inches of snowfall overnight.

National Weather Service meteorologist Lance Franck says you’ll see more snow the farther north you go in the state.

“Northern New Castle County can expect as much as three inches of snow, with the southern part of the county getting between 1-2 inches of snow," said Franck. "As you go south from there, you’ll see upwards of an inch in Kent County and less than an inch in Sussex County.”

Franck says the snow should start to fall around 10 pm Thursday. You should expect a light, but steady snow shower throughout the night that should fizzle out by morning.

Delaware’s Department of Transportation warns motorists to be careful and drive slow on the commute to work Friday morning. DelDOT recommends allowing extra time to get to work and watch for ice on bridges and overpasses.

DelDOT has pretreated all the state’s main roads and highways to prevent snow accumulation and has plows on standby in case snow begins to accumulate.
