First State cleans up from winter storm, driving warning lifted

Delaware Public Media

Much of the First State is cleaning up after Wednesday’s winter storm.

The storm dumped significant snow in the northern half of the state. In New Castle County, over seven inches was recorded in Talleyville and Greenville and 6.4 inches in New Castle. Woodside in Kent County got 7.5 inches of snow and Dover recorded 5.7 inches.

And for a good part of the day Wednesday, those two counties were under a Level 1 driving warning – encouraging people to stay off the roads while DelDOT plowed and salted.  Gov. John Carney lifted that warning at midnight Thursday.

DART is operating all services statewide Thursday, with possible delays.

But state offices in New Castle and Kent County will open late – at 10 a.m. - Thursday.  City of Wilmington offices will also open at 10 a.m.

Sussex County saw mostly rain yesterday, though it did change over to snow in the afternoon, leaving a trace of snow in some spots - and over 4 inches in Dagsboro. Harrington got 4.8 inches of snow.
