First State farmers markets reopening for business

Delaware Dept. of Agriculture

A sure sign of spring has arrived.

The 2015 Delaware farmers’ market season opened this weekend with the Milton market kicking things off. Most markets start their operations in May and continue throughout the summer.

According to the Delaware Department of Agriculture, the 2014 market season posted a record 2.6 million dollars in sales, double that of five years ago.

Several markets offer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards to purchase local produce.

There are 23 farmers’ markets scheduled to open this season, with hours and locations available at de.gov/buy local and you can also use your smartphone or tablet to find markets near you by using the DelawareFresh app available for most mobile devices.
