First State gas prices continue steady ascent

Delaware Public Media

First State gas prices continue their slow, steady climb.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware shifted 3 cents up from $2.35 a week ago to $2.38. But it’s more than a dollar less than what First State drivers were paying a year ago, at $3.47 per gallon.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.31 or slightly less – mostly in New Castle County.

Delaware drivers are paying seven cents below the national average, which rose 4 cents to $2.45 this week.

As refinery maintenance season continues, AAA officials expect prices to keep rising during the month of March by at least 20 cents. Right now, less than one percent of gas stations are selling a gallon of regular for less than $2 per gallon.

Officials expect prices at the pump will nonetheless stay below $3 per gallon. Drivers are paying over a dollar less than what they were paying a year ago, at $3.47 per gallon.
