First State reports three more flu-related deaths

Delaware Public Media

Delaware’s Division of Public Health (DPH) says there have been three more flu-related deaths for the 2015-2016 flu season, bringing the total to six.

The three fatalities - all in April - involved two older New Castle County residents and a middle aged Sussex County resident.  All three had underlying health conditions.

Officials say this flu season remains much less deadly than last year’s season in which there were 28 flu-related deaths.  But it has been an active season, especially in recent months. There’s been a total of 2,064 lab-confirmed cases in Delaware this season, compared to 2,390 a year ago.  This season has been unusual though in that the number of cases peaked late

DPH officials say people can prevent infection by taking simple everyday measures such as washing hands, using hand sanitizer, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick.
