Five Points Working Group meets for the first time Monday night

DelDOT’s Five Points Working Group is getting to work this week.";

A working group assembled by DelDOT to address the infrastructure needs of the Five Points intersection in Sussex County holds its first meeting Monday night.

DelDOT spokesman C.R. McLeod says anyone that lives in or around Sussex County or travels to the county, knows the Five Points intersection is in dire need of an infrastructure upgrade.

“And what we’ve announced is the beginning of a public process to identify both short-term and long-term solutions for that area in regards to transportation,” said McLeod.

McLeod says the working group’s first phase will involve gathering community input to help DelDOT and Sussex County develop some conceptual alternatives to improve the Five Points intersection.

McLeod added that there are several problems with that intersection.

“What we’ve seen is obviously a huge amount of growth in the Lewes area and the amount of traffic that is coming both east and west and north and south through the area there. So, we’re obviously seeing an intersection no longer meeting the needs of the community,” McLeod said.

McLeod says that work should be completed by next summer.

The 15 person working group meets Monday night at 5 at the Lewes Senior Center. The meeting is open to the public.
