Flu hits all three First State counties

Delaware Public Media

Delaware’s Division of Public Health has officially confirmed flu cases in all three counties of the state.

The first cases in New Castle County involve a 77-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man. The first case in Sussex County involves an infant.

No deaths have been reported.

These new cases come two weeks after health officials officially confirmed the first case of influenza in the state. That case involved a 27-year-old Kent County man - who was not hospitalized.

He had influenza A – which is one of the two main flu types responsible for seasonal flu outbreaks each year. It’s unclear which strain of the flu these new cases had.

State health officials recommend everyone protect themselves with a flu shot, especially if you come in contact with children or seniors.

None of these new flu cases received their flu vaccine this season.

Last flu season, the First State had nearly 21 hundred (2,064) confirmed flu cases and six flu-related deaths.
