Freeman Foundation

A classic American band, an iconic country singer-songwriter and a duo with 7 platinum selling albums will play in Sussex County this summer.

The Freeman Stage at Bayside in Selbyville unveiled its 2015 line-up Tuesday.Freeman Foundation Communications Manager Doug Phillips says the 54-event season includes more than a dozen national recording artists ranging from rock and roll royalty to reggae and jazz.

“We always strive for a diverse offering of programming. This year we really want to stretch it across and attract new audiences, expose our previous attendees to new things, and yes, that’s definitely something we take pride in, for sure.”

Combined, performers scheduled for the Freeman Stage this season have 50 Grammy nominations, 16 Grammy wins, and 4 are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The line-up includes rock shows by The Beach Boys, Heart and Melissa Etheridge; country performances from Lyle Lovett and His Large Band and Rosanne Cash.

Familiar names like Hall & Oates, The Beach Boys, Lyle Lovett and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band are just a few more booked to play at the Sussex County open-air arts venue near Fenwick Island.

Phillips says other major festivals in the area are helping them lure high profile acts - showing artists, promoters and agents the First State’s proximity major metro areas makes it a worthwhile tour stop.

“These other models - such as Firefly and Delaware Junction and Big Barrel - have really helped kind of emphasize and reinforce that it’s a great destination for arts in the mid-atlantic.”

The Sussex County outdoor concert venue’s eighth season also features Hall and Oates, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Indigo Girls.

In addition, the roster will feature dance, theatre and children’s performances.

Tickets for all performances go on sale on the Freeman Stage website (freemanstage.org) Monday, April 13th.
