If you sit back and think of a favorite place anywhere in the world or right here at home, what comes to mind? Gallery One, an exhibition space in Sussex County, takes people to some unlikely locations in the show “A Certain Place.”

Jeanne Mueller is one of Gallery One’s 15 artist/owners, who create new works each month with a central theme. Her painting in A Certain Place depicts a local lavender farm that is near and dear to her heart.

"And I think everyone had that same thought, (to) just find a favorite place that they like to go," Mueller said.

Like Mueller, many chose to create Delaware scenes, like one artist who painted her dog walking along the sands of Bethany Beach.

But some drew inspiration from across the globe, like a forest in northwestern France steeped in lore.

"It’s sort of interesting because it has unusual weather, but it also ties into the tomb of Merlin the wizard," Mueller said.

Another painting takes an impressionistic walk through Claude Monet's garden.

A Certain Place runs through Feb. 28 at Gallery One in Ocean View, DE.
