Gas prices in First State fall over past week

Delaware Public Media

First State gas prices fall for the first time in three weeks.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in First State dropped 6 cents from $2.75 to $2.69 in the past week.

That price is nearly a dollar less than what Delaware drivers were paying a year ago at an average of $3.67.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just under a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.59 or slightly less  – several of them are located in Dover.

Delaware drivers are paying 9 cents below the national average, which dipped one cent to $2.78 since last week.

According to AAA, gas prices across the country have stabilized and, in some areas, have dropped. Officials say this is due to refineries resolving production issues after recent malfunctions.

Gas production typically increases in the summer in anticipation of increasing demand for a busy driving season. The abundant supply along with the strong U.S. dollar has kept gas prices low compared to recent years.
