Gas prices jump in First State

Delaware Public Media

Delaware drivers are digging deeper into their wallets to fill up at the gas pump.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average cost of a gallon of regular jumped seven cents over the past seven days – from $2.20 to $2.27.

And Delaware gasprices.com reports there less than 10 stations charging $2.13 or less – mainly in Northern New Castle County.

The spike comes after prices dropped four cents over the previous two weeks.

And it may just be the start of higher prices.  A recent survey by AAA found the price could increase as much as 40 cents a gallon this summer, but the group says it’s hopeful it will stay below the $3 mark.

The national average currently sits at $2.32 – up four cents from last week.
