Gas prices moving higher as 2017 begins

Delaware Public Media

Delaware drivers are seeing higher gas prices as they welcome in the new year.  AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the cost of a gallon of regular is now at $2.30.

That’s up 6 cents from a week ago and is 12 cents higher than it was one month ago.  It’s also a whopping 40 cents higher than last year at this time.

There are some places around the First State where motorists can find somewhat cheaper prices.

Delawaregasprices.com reports nearly a dozen stations are charging less than $2.22 or less – mainly in the Newark and New Castle areas.

And prices in Delaware are the cheapest in the region.  A gallon of regular is $2.56 in Pennsylvania, $2.44 in New Jersey and $2.35 in Maryland.

The national average stands at $2.34.  It’s risen in 34 of the past 35 days and is the highest price to start a new year since 2014.
