Gas prices retreating in First State

Delaware Public Media

Delaware drivers are getting a noticeable break at the gas pump as fall begins.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price for a gallon of regular Sunday was $2.46, down 11 cents from last week and 23 cents from two weeks ago.

That takes a fairly big bite out of the 47-cent surge the First State saw Delaware in the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s impact on Gulf Coast oil refinery production. Refineries along the Gulf Coast are slowly coming back online, but it will likely be a few more weeks before they return to normal operation.

AAA also expects prices to retreat as demand drops with the end of the summer driving season and the switch to winter-blend gasoline takes effect.

But the $2.46 average in the First State this week is still much higher than a year ago when it stood at $2.19.

The national average currently stands at $2.58.
